Psychotic Dreams is an experimental electronic music project from Voronexh, Russia. The style varies from ambient and concrete music to synthetic idm and techno.
Psychotic Dreams was founded by Sergei Shilov in 2011 as an experimental branch of the Sophia Library. In general, Sophia’s Library had some listeners and became a neoclassical project although Sergei wished it was genderless at first. Psychotic Dreams is supposed to be a trash can that will drop tracks that are too weird for Sophia’s Library but might be interesting for some.
Initially Sergei said that the idea of Psychotic Dreams came to him while reading music theory. The book started with the words “In the first place there was a music”, so all music theory is a description of the observations made by the composers. Sergei said the early music and the way people look at it might be different, so he decided to try and find another music.
It soon turned out that there are many projects with lazy founders who don’t want to read music theory and want to create their own rules. Most of such projects could only be heard by their founders. So it was decided to add simple pop melodies to the experiments.
All Psychotic Dreams albums are nights and the songs are dreams that the listener sees during the nights. At first the project was gothic / industrial, then it changed the genre to idm.
Now Sergei realizes that he did not know enough modern theory for those experiments and all the things he tried are described there, and there are also methods to do it better than him. So the nights are over and the project will release 3 retrospective albums with the best songs of the nights and also new unreleased tracks.
The project will come back later with new music and concepts but no one knows how long it will take.
